Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Abdullah tweeted that he participated in the race without any training and completed the half-marathon at an average speed of 5.54 minutes per kilometer. While flagging off the Kashmir Marathon on Sunday, Omar Abdullah said that the Kashmir Marathon will become one of the top athletic events in the world in the coming years. I am grateful to the people of Srinagar for coming forward to encourage the runners.
The marathon was attended by 35 local athletes and 59 international runners from 13 countries. These included India’s top long-distance runners, Asian gold medalists and some of the best runners from Europe and Africa. The event, organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department, was aimed at showcasing Kashmir as a peaceful state capable of hosting international events
Who can participate in this marathon?
The age of the participant in the Kashmir Marathon should be more than 18 years. Apart from this, the participants should be absolutely fit. There will be two marathons in it, one full marathon and one half marathon. The full marathon will be of 42 kilometers while the half marathon will be of 21 kilometers.
